BlueStar was formed in 2005 as part of an effort by Shea Homes – and particularly its renowned Trilogy® brand – to better control the delivery of the lifestyle and amenities in the communities. Since its inception, BlueStar has played a critical role in making Trilogy the gold standard in the active adult segment, a distinction cemented by its numerous “Best of” designations from J.D. Power and others.
Over the years, BlueStar has evolved to provide services to clients outside of the Shea portfolio, to the point today where the portfolio is balanced with Shea and non-Shea projects. Regardless of the client though, the nearly 130-year history of the J.F. Shea family of companies stands behind every promise BlueStar makes.

As the leader of BlueStar, Tim oversees all aspects of resort club operations, including programming, spa, fitness, food & beverage, golf, and Board relations. Tim is also responsible for establishing strategic direction for the teams in the field as well as the group in the Central Services office. Additionally, Tim works closely with the ever-growing landscape group and is the licensed contractor for the organization. Tim helped create BlueStar in 2005 after senior management roles at many of the most recognizable resorts in the world.
As BlueStar’s Senior Vice President, Kirk’s primary focus is on the golf experiences in the BlueStar network. Through methods such as a proprietary site audit system and hands-on training sessions with management and front-line teams, Kirk is able to ensure the teams provide a consistently exceptional golf experience while also meeting financial targets. Kirk is a 30+ year member of the PGA of America, and an example of a rare individual who can turn accomplishments at individual business units into a template for industry-wide success.
Ben is responsible for meeting the revenue targets of all experiences within the BlueStar portfolio, a charter he has handled successfully since joining Tim & Kirk among the original team members at BlueStar. He leads a team in Scottsdale which provides the facilities creative services, web & e-marketing support, strategic counsel, and copywriting services. Ben has been recognized for his accomplishments both professionally and personally, including being named among the Business Journal’s “40 under 40.”
Touraj oversees all aspects of the critically important business functions of accounting, financial planning, analysis, purchasing, and audit. His central accounting team based in Scottsdale provides full-cycle accounting services to clients across the network, each month delivering timely and accurate reporting to be used as the basis for decision making. Touraj joined BlueStar in 2006 after more than 25 years of senior management experience in the hospitality industry, including long tenures with Hyatt, Hilton, and Starwood.
Steve implements a disciplined approach to the highly volatile world of food & beverage. From concept development to menu engineering to service delivery standards to procurement to cost reporting, Steve dives deep to ensure that goals in guest satisfaction and financial performance are always met. Furthermore, his input on facility design has been of incredible value to clients, and has led to numerous discoveries of previously uncovered opportunities in existing operations as well.
The newest member of the BlueStar senior team, Nancy is responsible for supporting our nearly 1,500 team members across the country. Her team handles all aspects of HR, including payroll, benefits, training, and more. Nancy’s background in hospitality features 35 years of supporting hotels throughout North America, most recently with Westin. Nancy was recruited to BlueStar in 2017.
Joel is based in Northern California where he leads the team at Club Los Meganos at Trilogy at The Vineyards. In addition to that role, he also directly oversees BlueStar facilities in California, Washington and Nevada. Joel's passion for customer service and ability to provide exceptional resort experiences has been the hallmark of his career. Prior to joining BlueStar, Joel enjoyed a progression of leadership roles with exemplary hotel brands including Starwood's flagship 5-Star, 5-Diamond resort, The Phoenician.
As the leader of BlueStar’s landscape portfolio, Paul focuses on balancing growth for tomorrow with exceptional performance for clients today. Paul enjoyed an impressive 25-year career in southern California before moving to Arizona. There his career covered many facets of the landscape industry, most recently leading his own company, Aqua Vida, which provided maintenance services to communities and private residences in and around San Diego. Paul has both a degree in Economics from Chapman University and Horticulture training from Colorado State University. Furthermore, he’s fluent in English and Spanish.
Theresa is responsible for the strategic planning and marketing implementation for BlueStar Resort & Golf properties. She is focused on innovative branding and promotions, building customer and team focused relationships, and creating dynamic social and traditional engagement. Prior to joining BlueStar Resort & Golf, Theresa directed brand strategy and marketing for 16 years at Bighorn Golf Club, one of California's most groundbreaking resort lifestyle communities. Her proven success in marketing lifestyle real estate, resort amenities, and event management promotions led her to devising creative, original solutions, and much more.
